Welcome to the new Heartland Web Site and Blog, which will feature news and stories demonstrating, teaching and advocating responsible investments (RI). This “capital strategies” website will serve as a clearinghouse for a responsible investor network, while monitoring the economy and tracking RI projects.
Heartland will highlight the renewed sense of urgency that, as a country, we need to spur new capital investments in the real economy and seize opportunities to invest in the coming clean economy. We need to invest in good jobs in order to expedite a real economic recovery.
Inspired by the United Nations Principles of Responsible Investment (PRI), Heartland Web will showcase investors whose purpose is to provide competitive returns for their beneficiary institutional investors, which include pension funds, while adhering to environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. The site will also expose unscrupulous irresponsible investors who damage the economy and destroy value (including companies and workers' pension funds in the process).
This site is the initiative of Heartland Capital Strategies (HCS), which promotes investments and projects essential for revitalizing the productive economy and community prosperity of America and Canada. HCS’s mission is advancing renewed prosperity by stewarding responsible investments in sustainable domestic manufacturing and community development through education, research and policy advocacy.
Harnessing the Power of Labor's Capital
HCS’s predecessor, the Heartland Network, was founded in 1995 to harness the power of workers’ capital to prudently invest in good jobs and revitalize industrial communities. Since then, Heartland has helped bring attention to a group of remarkable responsible investors, capitalized by pension funds, in the U.S. and Canada. Heartland published two pioneering books, including Up from Wall Street: The Responsible Investment Alternative (2009, Cosimo), authored by HCS Managing Director Thomas Croft.
Today, HCS is a broad, active network of responsible investors, capital stewards, and business, labor and policy leaders who are fighting to put people back to work and revitalize the community. The Heartland team interfaces with a network of innovative investment leaders who are committed to investing in sustainable enterprises, energy finance, real estate projects, and to developing a domestic supply chain for the emerging clean economy market.
Why We're Excited About the New Heartland Blog
Heartland Web and Blog will feature op-ed articles, books and other news about this critical field. HCS web will have breaking economic and investment news and stories in its blog, and provide RI success stories. The site will feature prestigious writers, authors and investment experts—including practitioners from the field-- on the economy and finance, manufacturing and housing, and other alternative investments, including the clean economy.
Besides success stories, Heartland Web will also feature thoughtful investor profiles and provide interviews with fund practitioners and capital stewards about where the economy is going, what our countries need to be doing to press for greater and more effective capital formations, and how institutional investors (pension funds, etc.) can help build the responsible investment movement.
Please join us at Heartland Web, which will dependably drill down into this vital body of work, and subscribe to the new Heartland E-Journal which will regularly send out exciting new reports from the field and will also cover broad aspects of the real economy—the one in which we live and work.
