Revitalizing a long-abandoned hospital building: The Octagon, New York City

The Multi-Employer Property Trust (MEPT Fund) rebuilt an abandoned hospital on the tip of Roosevelt Island, New York, and converted it into a green housing community with 500 units, plus a daycare center and other essential amenities.

Called “The Octagon,” this remarkable union-built construction project is revitalizing a once-grim and destroyed section of Roosevelt Island.  This remarkable new housing community won New York City’s Green Apple Award for rooftop solar panels and other energy-saving and environmental advances.
