HCS is committed to demonstrating, teaching and promoting responsible investment principles essential for a productive, sustainable economy and for building pathways to community renewal. Heartland is further committed to strengthening the case for new sources of capital for both the real and clean economy.
HCS explores practical capital stewardship solutions to regional and national problems, and supports responsible investment approaches. In summary, HCS hopes to:
- Build the capacity for responsible investment funds;
- Shine a light on best practices in alternative pension and institutional investments; and,
- Identify the stepping-stones toward the “3rd Wave” of responsible pension investment.
HCS also provides a forum to educate North American capital stewards about the financial benefits of investing in responsible funds and projects. The initial core drivers for HCS include:
- Becoming a forum for thought leadership to achieve responsible investment;
- Providing a range of services to institutional investors, policy leaders, capital stewards and fund managers and other financial concerns that promote responsible investments; and,
- Enabling a greater degree of responsible re-investment of our assets back into the real economy of our hometowns.
HCS organizes conferences, symposiums, trainings and other programs regarding the opportunities in responsible investment practices and vehicles. Finally, HCS provides specific guidance to unions, corporations, states and local governments regarding responsible capital strategies.
