Hiring for the Hub!

The Steel Valley Authority (SVA) is seeking a highly motivated and resourceful Capital Hub Advisor to join our Heartland Capital Strategies (HCS) program on a one-year contract basis. HCS focuses on advancing responsible investments, revitalizing America’s communities, and promoting sustainable initiatives. In this role, you will play a crucial part in developing and implementing outreach strategies to connect with our key stakeholders, raise awareness, and build support for our Appalachian Sustainable Finance Hub (the Hub) project.

Scope of Project

HCS has received a one-year planning grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission to scope out and build the Hub. In a 5-state region (Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia) the Hub will be designed to build capacity, particularly in smaller rural communities, to leverage federal resources to accelerate renewal and embrace sustainable development and renewable energy. The Hub will create project development capacity that can take projects from “shovel-worthy” to “shovel-ready” and encourage more municipalities and anchor institutions to join or replicate good projects to scale throughout the region. Success will result in reducing a shortage of financing for clean economy and resilient community projects that also create family-sustaining jobs.

The Hub, once implemented, will work with advisory partners to align projects in rural communities with Heartland’s network of investors, pre-development funds, federal funding, and other capitalization opportunities. The Hub will also feature an Appalachian cohort of operating partners who will provide technical assistance to build capacity and develop shovel-ready projects with high quality jobs in rural communities, mirroring successful programs that have benefitted larger cities throughout the country.

Responsibilities

Research: Work with Project Manager to identify municipal, university, school,  hospital, and community partners in targeted regions. Work with Project Manager and partnering organizations to identify best  practices related to ordinances, grant applications, labor standards, procurement, and  responsible contractor policies.

Marketing/Tracking: Conduct email and social media campaigns to generate interest for  participating in the Hub meetings and/or events. Compile research gathered into online  databases for potential implementation.

The Capital Hub Advisor reports to the Project Director for the Hub. This position is a one-year contracted position based on grant funding eligibility.
