Returning for the summer of 2021, The LCS Fellowship!

We launched LCS in the summer of 2017 and, according to the Fellows, we provided a progressive learning and networking experience. Through a series of unique "Lunch & Learn" sessions and field trips, the Fellows met national investment and policy leaders. The LCS can provide future mentoring and career support opportunities for students who are interested in working for a just society and more sustainable world.

Previous Fellows have already had a major impact as they helped communities create affordable, transit-oriented housing, won a union campaign for better wages and safe working conditions, and supported the growth of responsible businesses and good jobs.

The internship program is jointly run by Heartland Capital Strategies (HCS) and the Kalmanovitz Initiative at Georgetown University (GU-KI), groups committed to rebuilding cities and good companies, growing the clean economy, and making the "boss" more accountable and respectful of workers' rights. Here's the gist of it:

  • The LCS is an 8-week paid fellowship for the summer with capital strategy teams in responsible investment and impact funds, unions or NGOs.

  • The LCS empowers students to gain hands-on experience working with progressive change organizations that manage or influence "workers' capital" (pension and impact investment funds) or that organize shareholder campaigns;

  • The LCS provides a range of experiences--from investing in affordable housing, ethical businesses and renewable energy projects--to supporting corporate governance campaigns--to aiding in communications work for union capital strategies staff or working toward nationwide policy change.

Please reach out to us if you would like to sponsor a Fellow, or become a Host for our Summer program!
